You are at no disadvantage, because this is a movie that follows the book very closely (thank goodness in this case). They are both good. The movie differs mainly in that a few things only suggested/hinted at in the book are presented more definitely in the movie. Hollywood doesn't like to leave people guessing or thinking...
Follow Ups:
I'm glad to hear that the movie followed the book. I was actually saying that I felt I might be at a big ADVANTAGE not having read the book. Reading a book beforehand often leaves the movie goer disappointed. Also, it made the story and the details really fresh for me.It's nice to hear that you enjoyed both.
I noticed you said "advantage", I thought you meant you had trouble following the story, but what I meant was the movie is actually a little "clearer" (to meaning) than the book, so just seeing the movie is no disadvantage to understanding. Is this confusing enough? My parents found the movie confusing in a few parts, and called me up about it to ask me, since they knew I had read the book, and had recommended the movie...they're getting on in years...
