Films/DVD Asylum

I just rented Donnie Darko and loved it. Dark, twisted and funny. This is the second dvd that I've seen where I was compelled to immediately watch it again with the director's commentary. (the other one was 'the cell' - which love it or hate it you have to admit that it had amazing cinematography). Apparently they shot Donnie Darko on a budget of only $4 million. Considering the casting and the quality of film work, this seems like an amazing feat.

Everyone seems to compare it to American Beauty and Magnolia . . which I guess it is in the sense that it's shot in Deluxe Color, is oozing with tension and has that sense of the protagonist slowly spiraling out of control. Otherwise, I wouldn't want to compare them too much.

Good flick - and an innovative approach to a science fiction movie, check it out.
