First of all, Good luck on the covert operations part of the plan. Unfortunately, I have been busted so many times, mine can tell if I'm just thinking of trying to pull a stunt and if so she steals my wallet and locks down the house.I think that set up will do very well for you. Only issues I see are 1) the display isn't a plasma, which, is fine, but it's not a plasma. I want a plasma. Especially the Panasonic plasma. That's what I want and you should get if you can afford it; and 2) The A/V receiver isn't one of my favorites. Instead, I'd rather see you have, say, the Lexicon MC-12/LX-7 combo, which, I also want, but again, can't afford. String all this together with the nicest cables you can possibly afford, but spending anything over about $5k on cables is just a waste, I think.
So, if you can sneak the plasma and the Lex combo past the wife, you might be just that little bit happier with the set-up overall, I think. Then, longer term, you might start thinking about saving for a full set of Aerial Acoustics or Revels all the way around, just to get that last little bit out of it you didn't know you were missing. But that's a long way off, at least three months.
Hope it helped, I know it helped me. Somehow, spending someone else's money frivolously always does.
Follow Ups:
I'm only spending about $2500, give or take depending on taxes, sales, etc. You're trying to make me spend five figures -- way outta my league! You're right, it's not the best receiver in the world. I may end up upgrading to, say, an Outlaw amp and whatever preamp/decoder rates highly in the $1K price range . . .
