No matter what your source is (Standard or S-VHS) it outputs via the S-Video hook-up...and does a pretty nice job at that!Sam

Now I presume your JVC recorder is an S-VHS, right?Ok, if you play an S-VHS recorded tape you will get true s-video (split) output. But if you play a standard VHS tape, it is still only a composite signal coming out of those S-video sockets. It just cannot be anything else!!!
