Okay, I know I'm throwing a vague question out there, because there are many different ratios like 16:9 and 4:3, and so on.
the reason I'm asking is because I have a chance to purchase a Proxima 5500 Projector. This is actually an older projector that has a resolution of 640x480. This is not going to work for high-end formats like HDTV of course, but I was just wondering whether it would be worth purchasing just for DVD-viewing purposes. It plays NTSC, PAL and SECAM.
Would a 640x480 projection from an S-Video output from a DVD player look good?
Follow Ups:
Since people like to see computer output with clean-edged pixels, the bandwidth might be sufficient to do a decent job with the 720 samples per scanline, of DVD. I'd say it's definitely worth trying. If you can, get a disc like Video Essentials, and use their resolution test pattern to see how much you get. Also, the other tests could be worth going through, but projectors can be time-consuming and tricky to calibrate.
Good luck!
... upon what sized screen you intend using and how critical you are. In your position I definitely would NOT buy before trying. Used projectors are a gamble, but like any gamble, you just might win!! Do some more net research & try to contact owners of one of these for an informed opinion.John
