On the basis of video quality, only, what are the strongest sub-$1K DVD players, and why? I care quite a bit about good deinterlacing, BTW.I have no concerns for audio performance or features (e.g. toslink vs. coax, SACD, DVD-A, jitter, etc.), since I live in an apartment with fairly noise-sensitive neighbors.

Kenwood DV5700 has a very good picture for around a grand using the new sage/farojuda chip. Toshiba SD9200 is impressive, also the Denon DV2800 has a good picture.
