Hi, The internal HDTV decoder in most TV's can decode over the air signals (Try putting up a radioshack antenna and you may pick up detroit if you are close enough, or buffalo?)It is also compatible with the US DirectTV signals...
STarchoice uses different encoding, and so you need a HD-201 Navigo HDTV decoder box. This unit is now priced about $400.00 cdn. It will only hook up to the Navigo 401 receiver, so if you have the newer and simpler 305 Starchoice unit, you may want to see if you can trade up at your local dealer, or use the 305 in a second room.I have to admit that starchoice is improving their program offerings slowly... It is now normal to see several movies through the week in HD, along with at least a couple of hours of network programming in prime time. Leno is always on if you want to see his chins in HD.
I was even able to watch ABC in 5.1 DD sound last nite, which is something that starchoice has been struggling with for months.
for the whole scoop on hd in canada see www.kusat.com and look in the discussion forum for HDTV.
Hope this helps.
