Totally unsubstantiated rumour, told to me by my cousin who works for a manufacturing technology company... a Japanese client of theirs, T*****a, expects manufacturing costs to decline by 50% in each of the next 2 years. So today's $16,000 CAN unit would be $4,000 CAN, all else being equal.
I certainly can't afford $16k now, so waiting is all I can do.
Peace.

for $15,000 (US) you guys are talking about the 62" plasmas. I haven't seen them in action. the size of the pannel scares the crap out of me.I like the 42 because at ~29 Kg it's light enough to haul around the house. Try that with a direct-view or rear projection set!
Of course that price doesn't include one day air freight, that's a few hundred, and you need cables, a hundred or so, and a "set-top box" $600 or so, and some kind of mounting hardware, another hundred, a UHF antenna, satellite dish, a new surround sound system and 7 full-range speakers, a custom audio video room with indirect lighting and acoustic treatments, divorce lawyers...child support....you know...
ah, when you think about it, books are nice.
