My pick would be the Sony.

Not as good sounding as a good Citation 5.0 (especially with analogue sources as the Sony digitises all inputs) but easier to use, better built, better input options and not as quirky.

The Perfect Vision chose the Sony as the best pre/pro at the $2000 mark.

Buy a used Sony and go through the software upgrades.
2.01 is the important one.
But the Sony can't be upgraded to true 6.1 operation, if that is of importance to you.
