I know boom all about home theater, but for "tube sound" with the necessary power for HT, at a reasonable price, check out a fet-valve design, such as offered by AVA (Audio by Van Alstyne). They have a web site.

That sounds very interesting, I will look it up and more tube recommendations are very welcome. It's so hard to find tubes to drive a home theater system at at a budget of $750 per stereo pair and I'm forced to switch to solid state.
