IMHO, I suggest avoiding the current 8500 series Radeons. ATI's (to my knowledge) not been able to fix a problem with the Drivers that distorts the gamma on the cards, not since they were released late last year. I personally dumped my 8500 (not the AIW version) for an NVidia card.
Cliff Wilson posted over at av science that the gamma problem is now fixed. Good news for 8500 owners. Not sure when the new drivers will be released...
