hello there
i helped my father go dvdigital last week, got a player and hooked it up to his 10 yearish old NEC tv via bettercables s-video cable with no apparant problems. then..using the video essentials to calibrate his tv a big problem arose.
the ntsc color bar test looked like this (((||)))
otherwise alls well, can't tell there's a problem on any other frames or while watching a film. but, in the dark scenes can see faint curved color bars in the corners?
any advice or experience?
thanks in advance

Magnetic fields will distort the picture.
Try same test on other TV to determine if DVD player is bad or TV. If other TV shows OK picture, then your father's TV is bad. If it is misaligned, as I believe it is, you should see this on all vertical lines that are close to left and right end of screen. This may require repair, as adjustment is usually not enough to compensate for failing parts.
