In Reply to: I'd say it's more likely to be the PS2.... posted by Iguana Man on May 09, 2002 at 10:56:40:
I noticed last night, watching Lawrence of Arabia, that whenever this audible glitch happened it coincided with the preamp receiving a burst of PCM via the optical input and then returning to AC3. Whenever it switches from one to the other, there is what sounds like a burst of static. I assume a good DVD player would output a continuous AC3 signal and this wouldn't happen. Otherwise I am screwed because me preamp is seeing some breaks in the AC3 signal as an opporutnity to turn off and on the speaker field.Well, screwed may be a dramatic way of putting it. The problem is quite subtle.
Follow Ups:
I'll double check when I get home, but there may be some options within the PS2 that you can adjust. I seem to remember a DVD option menu for some reason.....however, you say you're running optical out of the PS2, which if I'm not mistaken, requires a special cable. Is it possible the cable is "glitchy" ?
