I have a friend who has a "surround" receiver(nothing high end) and wants to configure it using 7 speakers and 2 subs. It has the 5.1 capability but I don't know what would happen if he put the EXTRA 2 speakers in series with the front channel or how he can drive the extra sub with only one output on the receiver.Sorry I'm pretty ignorant about surround. Any thoughts????? or should he just stick to the 5 surround speakers and one sub??
Follow Ups:
Unless his main stereo pair has power handling problems I see no point in doubling up on them but there is point in 2 subs, provided he is prepared to spend some time experimenting with their position (generally NOT in a corner). Note that the center channel will often demand more power than either left or right.John
