My PS2 was my first DVD player, and if it wasn't for the remote I bought being such a piece of crap, I would probably still be using it, as it's better than the cheap GE DVD I was given for helping someone out.

Never had any problems with the PS2 playing DVDs beyond it being a pain in the butt to have to have the game controller there to watch a movie. Know a bunch of other folks in the same boat and haven't heard any other complaining. :)

Was also using an optical/digital connection for the audio.
