Well, after digging around for answers to my s-video interference with my Marantz SR5000, Proscan DVD, and digital cable box, it appears the problme was with an IC chip in the Marantz receiver and neither ground-loop interference nor macrovision protection was the problem.

Marantz is going to replace the chip for me at no cost.
