In Reply to: Projector Aspect Ratios: Question posted by ICI on June 13, 2002 at 12:13:51:
On our BARCO projector I can format 8 different aspect ratios (it has 32 memory banks for this). We look a lot at foreign movies broadcast on SBS here and many of them are 16:9 with subtitles overlapping and underneath so a full 16:9 screen is not possible with them.
As well as standard 4:3 I have devised a ratio about half way between 4:3 & 16:9. it chops a bit off the top and bottom but I prefer this to 4:3 for most pics. Some quality is lost but it is generally acceptable to very good.
So, to answer your question, I have no real gripes as I can select the aspect ratio which best suits the material.
My gripe is about DVDs, each with their own cute little menus and set up demands. It is a pity they cannot standardise and make them so DD 5.1 is the automatic audio choice although I suppose this would irritate those who only have 2CH.

So this is a feature exclusive to your projector right? I don't imagine that many of the standard consumer projectors would have those type of options.
... I would expect most modern ones designed for home use to accommodate 4:3. 16:9 & at least one other widesreen aspect. They would need memory banks to accommodate this so doubt if it is exclusive to BARCO.John
