Keep the cable chain as short & free as possible upgrading to Denon's higher end models any cost the same & have direct from DVD/CD etc. to receiver. Running from dvd to preamp to recevier adds more cables more signal etc. Home theater really has few equals in the separates area vs. the new breed of hight tech receivers. There are exceptions of course but they cost megabucks. I was going to go your route when upgrading my 2 channel a/v system to 7.1 but I puchased a Marantz SR-5200 receiver $439,Elite DV-47A $799,Proton 31" mon $999 & 5 Sonus faber + Sub speakers(concertinos, walls, picolo solo & infinity sub)
Totals were high but the sonics outshine anything I've heard at or near the cost(with all Monster M-Series Cables)..... DHVCD
