  At one stage the Philips was regarded as a high end steal but I have not kept up with their latest and greatest incarnation. There were some initial software problems but these should have been ironed out by now.

  I've gone down the Meridian 800 path because it has a high end reputation for CD, DVD-A as well as DVD but it has been an expensive path to follow.

  Denon seems to have a lot of fans on AVS so use their search engine to check out the various models.
