Inmates,While a warranty service technician was visiting the home of a friend who had recently purchased a new Toshiba 36HFX71, he proceeded to push a few buttons on the set and on the remote then, voila! In a matter of seconds, the screen displayed what appeared to be a "service or design mode" with all sorts of secret menus and mysterious control functions. Now, my friend was not able to see what it is that this technician did to enter this mode because he was being quite discrete. My questions are this...is anyone familiar with this service procedure and what advantage would these "extra" controls have for the average Toshiba user. BTW…my friend’s 2-day-old purchase requires a new picture tube. Go figure.
Hope this isn’t too far out in left field.

Check the following web site:http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/index.htm
On this site quite often are posted the "secret codes" that permit access to the service menus. Try at your own risk, but hey! this is America. Information should be free!
Never enough stuff to put me in left field!!! Hehehe...The mode the tech went into is the service mode which allows them to do anything from color changes to convergence setup.
These controls are rather complex to the "average" user (those people can adjust the color with the normal menu), and they should probably leave well enough alone.
I used the service mode to set up my TV's gray scale, convergence, and all those fun things (with the watchful of my technician/friend).
I (and he) were rather surprised at how "out" the TV was in relation to AVIA, Video Essentials, and THX test discs.
