I own an Onkyo TX-DS494 which has a Dolby Pro Logic II decoder. Last night when playing one of my Stereophile test cd 2 (channel identification tracks) - I discovered something ODD... with the DPLII Music/Movie mode on and using 4.1 set-up, the LEFT channel sound check came out in the phantom center (I don't have a center channel yet) and the RIGHT channel sound check didn't come out at all! (I've checked and all my connections are correct) Has anyone encountered this before? Any info would be great... I'm wondering if there's a bug in my receiver or it is 'normal' with DPLII processing. I already mailed same question to dolby.com hoping for enlightenment. Maybe you can try it yourself if you have a DPLII receiver. Cheers!
Follow Ups:
I have a Marantz SR-5200 with DPL2. I have five speakers and no sub. I repeated your experiment but, in my case, I left the center channel on. DVD/CD player is hooked up via an optical cable. When I selected DPL2 music or movies and played my stereophile test CD 2, the left channel comes out the left speaker, the right channel comes out the right speaker, in phase information came out center channel and out of phase information came out the rear speakers. In other words, it worked perfectly. I doubt this is an anomoly in DPL2, there is something wrong with the installation or with the Onkyo.
Hey, thanks for the input! Hopefully Onkyo could give some idea no this =P
