When using DVDs as a sorce, I experience anomalies in the picture. This is specially visible in the deep black area. I have tried to reduce the contrast and brightnes levels, but I am not pleased. I am using a Philips B420 plasma screen. This modell was delivered without a tuner but with RGH, composit and s-vhs. As of now I am using RGB between screen and player. The screen is probably on of the first generations, but I think the quality of vhs and cabelboadcast is more pleasant for the eye. Is there anything I can do to get a better picture without the artifacts of the digital picture?

Some DVD players allow you to adjust the black level. Plasma is noted for not being as black in the blacks as some other display devices, and I detect you know that, so you might want to consider one of those adjustable players to see if it helps. It may not though.
