HOME?? THEATER. How 'bout just THEATER.In true Tim Taylor style, I have 4 Altec A7-500 VOTT's that I'm planning on using for fronts and rears in my basement. I have another I could use for center under TV, but TV would be against ceiling.
What would work well with the VOTTS in this application for center?
My wife says I'm a lunatic so I guess an asylum is where I belong.

Have you tried it without a center channel? I don't use one and don't feel that anything is missing.I've heard systems with center channels, and have not been impressed. The VOTs have a distinct sound of their own,(I have a pair) so you will need to stick with something very similar to maintain continuity if you do choose to use one.Perhaps you could mount the vot upside down above the tv?Altec made several smaller speakers using the same drivers for home use, using a bass reflex cabinet. If you're into DIY projects the plans for this speaker(Valencia) are at www.soundpractices.com.4 or 5 VOTs will make a killer HT setup, but will require a subwoofer for best effect.Do you have a sub,if so what kind? Have you heard the DVD 5.1 version of the Blue Man Group"s Audio? Sounds great at 110 db!If anyone ever asks why you need full range surround speakers, this will answer the question!!!
Don, Thanks for your reply. Good suggestions.I haven't tried it without center channel yet, in fact I'm in the process of re-arranging the basement and making all connections. I don't have a sub yet. I thought I'd wait until I got it all going to see how it sounded before I added anything. Your suggestion to maybe not use a center sounds like sound advice. I'll give it a listen and see.
I don't have a sub yet but I'll probably get one of some kind. I think the VOTTS cut off pretty high for bass (100Hz or so), however, these old ears probably roll off sooner than they do.
