I purchased Panasonic RP-91 in Jan 02 and in Sept 02 the power supply switch blew. Don't know if I have a dud, but who would think this expensive piece of equipment would have died in such a short amount of time. Also, player was in shop for 3 wks because it took over a week for Panasonic to respond and ship the part. Parts covered 1 year but labor 90 days. I have 3-yr service contract and luckily a DMR-E20 recorder so I could still watch my dvd's. Just a reminder to get the service contract.

Service contracts are usually a complete waste of money. They are pure profit for the most part. I have owned many components over the last 15 years and (knock on wood) have never needed an service contract. I'm sorry you had a problem with the RP-91 but from all the research I have done you are 1 of very few people who have had any problems with this unit, I would say skip the contract and save the money. Odds are much better that you will never need the service.
