Have you replaced your optical cable? They are notorious for not snapping into place firmly and loosening up. Or you might have cracks internally.Try a different toslink and if that's the problem, Outlaw makes a very well designed one.

I just replaced the cable with one from BetterCables. Both capables work fine with DVDs. Does this mean their is some sort of problem with the Denon and if so, why would a DVD work fine but the satellite has the problem?
sounds like a problem with the receiver not being able to handle momentary changes in DD signal.... i.e. switching between DD 2 channel to multichannel or something like that...
