In Reply to: Re: Why don't the 5.1 outputs of a processor drive an amplifier? posted by EricJ on November 10, 2002 at 09:13:38:
I was told that one had to have a processor/pre or a processor and a pre to get line level out. I tried a Sony processor and could get no sound from it. The output I believe was 1V at 1 kilohm impedance. These six outputs were for a 5.1 input on a reciever or amplifier. I was curious as to why this was the standard and not normal line level out as in most all audio gear.
