I had regular DPL for ten years and it was pleasant enough but rear channels are mono and limited range in DPL. DPL II is a whole 'nother story since it produces full range separate rear channels. Huge difference. So if you watch a fair amount of TV in surround, DPL II is the way to go.

Meridian had steered surround substitute for DPL since 1993, and had steered side/rear 7.1 setup for over 5 years.
