Dear All,
My wife and I purchased a pair of paradigm monitor 7 last year which we really enjoy, but are current aging receiver does not due them justice. We are looking at replacing the receiver which will be used for both stereo listening and HT. The Denon 1803 has a very attractive price vs feature placement. The 3803 has received very good reveiews as well.
The question is whether the increase in amps or quality would lean you towards the 3803over the 1803. The way electronics outdate themselves (baring buying a good amp, but i am not sure that I want to get involved with components), it seems desirable to not over invest.
Did I miss something else i should seriously consider. We are going to listen to them over the next week on a pair of monitors at the dealer.
Any comments welcome.

You are right that the pre/pro section of your A/V receiver will become obsolete soon. For that reason, consider moving up to separates. The AVR-3803 is a decent receiver, with many great features, but if you can afford it, consider an amp and pre/pro combo. A good amplifier will help your Paradigms sound their best, and can last many years without becoming obsolete. With a good separate power amp, you are free to upgrade your pre/pro whenever you wish. If your current receiver has pre-outs, you can start with a new amp, then shop for a pre/pro. Try Outlaw Audio, Rotel and others.
I think you will find better quality sound, a much better remote and some nicer features in the 3803. Also, the 1803 is much more limiting with features, inputs and outputs which will make it obsolete much faster than the 3803. Check out www.tsto.com for nice prices on these.
