I bought a NAD T562 DVD player with progressive scan, but I'm thinking about trading it in for a Cambridge Audio DVD 300. The reason being that the NAD and my Audio Refinment pieces create a hum through the digitial cable. We tried everything to fix the hum, but in the end--the Cambridge is much quieter. I do watch movies, but I listen to music all the time. Both players satisfy me musically. Plus, I can't really tell the difference between the two in terms of picture quality. I plan to do some more testing... . . but the Cambridge looks better to me than some of the cheaper players WITH progressive scan.

Progressive scan is important if you have a progressive scan monitor to go with it. Otherwise, don't spend the extra money. That being said, progressive scan DVD players are getting pretty cheap, and HDTV progressive scan is here now, so maybe it's time to think about the future. We'll be spending most of our viewing time there.
