We are shopping for a new TV for our new room in the basement. My wife wants a regular old 32". I, of course, want something better. We only have a roof antenna at this point. We will have HT set up based off a B&K AVR202 receiver. I'll probably have my good 2 channel system in there also. We sit about 7 ft from screen and WAF is factor.I'm wondering what the best way to go is? I was originally thinking of a 34" 16x9 Sony or ??? There is a newer rear projection Samsung 40 or 43" with dfp(?) technology. The other way is the plazma style but things get pricy in a hurry. I think I've seen posts that people like the panasonic? What should I look at & consider? One sales guy said HDTVs are bad with regular analog signals??
We also looking at a small TV to wall mount for excercise area. Best Buy has Sharp & Samsung flat pannels (15 to 18"). Any good?
Where else should I look or perhaps internet sources??

I'll probably get the SONY this weekend as I am just starting to piece together a home theatre setup. If you look at the webpages below, be sure to scroll down toward the bottom of each page for more links to performance, specs, and user comments. Good luck!SONY KV-34XBR800

If you're planning on HDTV, you need a progressive scan monitor, and a satellite dish or cable system that carries HDTV programming. You'll also need a digital converter box, but usually the cable or satellite company will provide one to you for little or no charge. Your sales guy is mistaken with respect to regular broadcasting over a progressive scan TV. It looks fine, though obviously not as good as HDTV. As to the size and dimension of the monitor, HDTV signals are broadcast in the 16 x 9 format, so ideally you'd want a monitor with the same screen dimensions. With direct view TV's, 34" is as large as the 16 x 9's go. Rear screen TV's go larger, but they have the disadvantage of a narrower viewing angle than direct views. Brands to consider are Toshiba, JVC, Samsung, Panasonic and Sony. Stay away from GE and RCA (also known as Scenium). Mitsubishi does a good job with rear screen TV's but they've been out of the direct view market for a few years. Too bad. I've got two Mitsu's that are over 12 years old and they've been perfect.
