Uh. Yes! Each device type will probably change the balance, e.g. the balance function built into the receiver will probably not match the balance you get from DVD, Cable, LaserDisc, VHS. More than that, the balance can change from Dolby to DD to DTS. The Avia or Video Essentials set up discs will help with DVD (VE only with Laser)
An inexpensive meter is available from Radio Shack and can be found in virtually every store as well as their website.I have pre-sets for the balance on DVD and Laser DD (done by test tone and meter) and DVD and Laser DTS (done by ear and meter). They are each different. (Sigh!) I also have pre-sets on my projector but that is a whole other PITA. I have been through a variety of receivers/decoders and sources. The problem is always there.
