I have an 8 month old Sony NS500 DVD player that freaked out the other night while I was watching a movie. At some chapter points the machine would completely freeze up, and then skip back to an earlier part of the movie. I could fast forward past the 'sticky' spot and all would be well, but it froze and skipped a few times througout the movie.Since the first day I bought the machine it has ccasionally 'hiccuped' at chapter points, freezing for just a half second or so, but never like it did on the disc I mentioned above.
Might the unit need cleaning at this point, or was it just a bad DVD? Or...?
Thanks for your help!

Try one of the CD/DVD cleaning kits out there. I use Auric Illuminator, which is supposed to add clarity to both audio & video, but finds it also does a great job of cleaning discs and I rarely get skips or that digital pixelation.Even a good, soft cloth made for cleaning eyeglasses or camera lenses would work, wiping from the inside out and NEVER in a circular pattern. Worth a try!
If that doesn't work and the player is still under warranty, return it.
