I am primarily a 2-channel listener, but we are moving to a different house and I am thinking of getting an older HT receiver to replace my Onkyo Pro-Logic receiver. I think I could get a better receiver for the money if I look for a nice, older HT receiver that would have been marketed as "Dolby Digital Ready", meaning it did not have a DD decoder, but had 6 channel inputs on the rear. I have a DVD/SACD player, and could use this for DD/DTS/SACD multi-channel listening. Are there any models that stick out in your mind? I just don't want to go drop $1,000 on a decent new model.

Um, have you looked at HT receiver prices lately?I can't think of any good reason to upgrade your old Pro-Logic receiver with a 'newer' old Pro-Logic receiver. Fact is, you can purchase a very competent, Dolby-Digital/DTS/Pro-Logic II receiver NEW for $500-$700. Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, H/K all make very nice mid-model line pieces.
With HT receivers, most of your money goes into the digital processors and circuitry. Why upgrade unless you are going to get at least semi-current technology (99% of receivers with Dolby Digital built-in have 6 channel inputs for upgrades anyway)? If 2-channel is your priority, you'd be better served with an integrated amp.
Thanks for the advice Nick. I wasn't aware HT receiver prices had fallen so much. I'll take a look at what is available.
