I was watching another fairly bland & booring episode of the new Star Trek last night. At one point, mid way through the hour, the chief engineer is on top of the warp engine working on it. I noticed that the futuristic tool he was using was a mod'd version of the beloved Radio Shack SPL meter.
Boy, I know it's a classic design. But to last for centuries - - damm, that's good.

I've seen that sort of evidence before.
About three to four years ago, I happened to stumble across an episode of The Outer Limits. Some cretin from the future had come to earth and was infecting people with some sort of virus. Then some Time Cops showed up, zapped the offender with a purple ray to send him back to Future Jail. The device used was - you guessed it - the ubiquitus Radio Shack SPL!!!
