In Reply to: Which DVD to buy. Pioneer dv37 or Denon dvd1600 posted by lsyankees on May 15, 2003 at 05:41:28:
I have had it for a couple of years and have never had a problem. The image quality is excellent. I looked at replacing it with the Denon 2800 mkII model and I found the older Elite a much better DVD player. Image quality is excellent while the Farjouda equipped Denon was average in my opinion. With the Denon you do get a current model and you will get DVD-Audio with the Denon which might make it a better audio machine. For 100 bucks more than the Denon 1600 you can get a DV-47ai from J & R during their sales (649.00). This will blow away the 1600 in every way.

I've never seen the picture from the '37, so I can't comment directly. While I don't know what the author's experience is, when I read something like, "the worst chroma upsampling," it's probably a significant fact. I came across this review while doing my homework:"It also is an improvement on the previous elite models, the DV-09 and DV-05. Unlike them, the DV-37 has no significant chroma delay, and the ringing is improved. That said, we were still disappointed with this player. It has the worst chroma upsampling artifact of any of the players we have reviewed so far. We couldn’t imagine how someone could watch "Toy Story" on this player and not notice the jagged streaks on almost every red object in the movie. And, we noticed the problem on almost every movie we used in the testing, even when we weren’t looking for the problem. The red streaks were that bad."
