A digital projector must be relamped once a year or so (the lamps for my PJ are around $400).CRT projectors require extensive calibration, which is apparently best done by a professional. They will deliver the most film-like image, however.
Keep in mind, CRT projectors are not as bright so you can't watch a film with daylight streaming into the room. They're also big units. With a high-brightness digital machine, ambient light is no problem so long as rays aren't directly hitting the screen.
On the digital side of things, you could also look into D/ILA machines, which are more expensive than both LCD and DLP machines, but are superior.
