I can't answer your question specifically, but I know that Pro-Logic II sounds great with any 2 channel source (even FM radio). That's what I would use as a default surround mode.Does the cable box have any digital outputs? If so then will your decoder automatically sense what type of decoding is available?

I would assume that it does, though, which would mean yes, auto-sensing of format by my receiver.
