In Reply to: How does the Denon DVD 5000 compare nowadays? posted by Aussie Adam on September 23, 2003 at 16:22:17:
DVD technology has advanced a long way since those halcyon days of 1999.You can probably get just as good video quality from a sub-$1000 player. What you won't get is the battleship build build quality of those late 90s players. Everything is so lightweight and disposable now.
The Denon 5000 was next to useless for CD replay.
From the same time period the only DVD players that had CD quality even close to a similarly priced CD player was the Sony DVP-S7700 and the Pioneer DV-717.At 1400AUD the Denon is way overpriced.
Excellent build, mediocre performance.
For comparison, I recently picked up a well used, slightly rough looking US spec Sony DVP-S7000 with full multi-region inc. PAL playback/disabled Macrovision but no remote for a mere $200NZD.
