I'm looking at purchasing a new set of speakers, while at the same time I'm considering migrating my 2-channel audio system to a fairly basic HT system. I'm wondering if I should only consider shielded speakers.Current room is about 13' wide. Figure the speakers will end up 7-8.5' apart. Between them will be a 32" or 36" CRT TV.
Follow Ups:
Although shielded speakers would be ideal, at that distance you shouldn't have a problem unless the speakers have unusually huge magnets. I'm running a 34" 16:9 CRT between my unshielded Tannoy D500 speakers (with 8" drivers) with no problems. My speakers are about 6.5-feet apart as measured from the inside dimension closest to the TV.
That seems far enough away to be able to use unsheilded speakers. Or better yet, get Maggies.
