I think it depends on the mix and how much they actually use the center channel. If you speakers image well which mine do I have had the same thing happen depending on the disk. I have also had it go the other way. In general I just go with the center and not worry. Even if it sounds "better" without it still sounds just dandy with.

It doesn't sound bad with the center channel speaker, just better w/o it. But of course this was only a brief experiment with just one concert video DVD. I should try again with other discs with more center channel content to see what happens. It just floored me though when I found this particular disc to sound better w/o the center speaker. I thought to myself... why have that ugly center speaker sitting on top the TV if I don't need it. Well, maybe I do need it. More tests to follow.
