I am starting to research hi-definition tvs in the thousand dollar range and would appriciate any opinions on the subject. I am finally ready to put to rest my 16 year old 27" Sony which refuses to die, however it has been on life support for a few years now. The tuner section has been out for years but I have been using the turner section in whatever VCR I am using at the time. The on/off switch in not working and have been using the cable box to turn in on/off. Needless to say the remote has given up the ghost many years ago and the volume control does not work but I put the sound thru my stereo anyway. HOWEVER, the picture is still pretty good.
But I digress. Am not considering,at this time, flat-screen because of cost. Would also like opinion if I should go with a wide-screen box.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!!
Follow Ups:
Absolutely go wide screen. Each day sees more hi def broadcasts, which are always in wide screen (16 x 9). Even some of the analog channels (mostly PBS) broadcast wide screen programs. Before long, almost everything will be wide screen.Though a bit more than your $1000 budget, SONY makes a series of CRT rear projection sets that have a good picture our of the box and a great one when ISF calibrated.
I have a Sony Hi def set, 34' diag that I bought in '99. It is a tube set and has a wonderful picture, even on standard broadcasts. Widescreen dvd's are great, I wish they had the HD widescreen dvd's out...
