I need to videotape my son playing the drums for school. But in order to get good sound quality, I'm running only the video from the camera, and the audio is coming from the mixer that I normally use to record drums onto cassete tape.My problem is that, while the sound quality is good, the volume recorded onto the videotape is too low. And it is this way on both of my VCRs, and regardless of the signal strength from the mixer. I've tried tried everything I can think of -- different wires, etc. -- but nothing makes any difference.
Do you think that maybe it's because my RCA (two) output from the mixer is stereo, and the input into the VCR is mono? I'm using a two-into-one to make the connection.

... is what you might be wanting to use. With some kind of input level adjustment. Audio quality can approach a good cassette or R2R,IMO. Fairly cheap too.
What are you using, as to play-back means?...to judge sound quality and levels...... the TV's speakers?
Hi. I'm using a TV hooked up to home-theater speakers. It's not the best system in the world, but it works okay. And the sound quality on the tape is pretty good, but you have to turn the volume up so far that there's a lot of hiss. I think you're probably right about using a stereo VCR. I just looked on ebay, and they have some good ones for less than $50. Thanks.
