Got my Motorola DCT6400 from Comcast 2 days ago. Self installed for $0 and $5/month. I am EXTREMELY impressed with this unit. Interface on Comcast is so easy my Daughter called my Mother-in-law from school yesterday and stepped her through setting-up two shows my Daughter wanted recorded. That is trial by fire. I cannot tell the difference in the HD picture between live and recorded HD on my 65" Mitsu Diamond RPTV. I have it interfaced with component cables right now, but I'll be in search of a DVI cable shortly. I can find nothing to complain about as far as this hardware is concerned. It just works seemlessly for $5/month!!
Follow Ups:
I just installed a 6412 yesterday. The only complaint I have right now is the hard drive noise, a slight, barely audible "squeak" from my listening position, but only when it is dead quite in the room. Hopefully a break-in period will quiet it down.My wife was pretty much indifferent about the upgrade (from a 6200). But just 5 minutes ago, she went into the kitchen, and came out bitchin that she missed part of the show she was watching. So I grabbed the remote and hit rewind...DVR to the rescue!
The remote could be improved, so I ordered a Home Theater Master MX-500 to try with it...the web price is down to $70-80 now (listed for almost $200)
