I have found DTS 5.1superior in all cases. There is more coherence and more bass. This is not true regarding the competing matrix codecs (i.e., the ones that convert stereo to multi-channel sound) where Dolby Pro Logic II is superior to DTS Neo 6.

Your problem may be with the DVD player or the processor, whichever reads the signal for 5.1
