aviguy: I looked at the Panasonic site and found a picture. You are right about the audio out jacks. It's very strange that they are not listed in the specifications I've looked at - several times! Do you happen to know if these jacks are variable or not? By the way, I'm considering the 42" EDTV, the TH-42PD25, which of course has the built-in tuners.
Follow Ups:
Unfortunately the audio out is fiixed on that model. Sony does make a relatively inexpensive 42" plasma with variable out ( KE-42M1 ), but it doesn't have an ATSC tuner, only NTSC. That one feature, variable audio out, is likey to make your search more difficult in the lower price ranges of plasmas. Its too bad, because the better brands have made significant improvements in picture quality ( much faster GPUs - noticably less pixelized noise ) on the lower priced models in the last two model years. I would hate to see you buy some unknown brand, with a lesser processor based soley on price because it has variable audio out. It may be worth it to consider getting a small passive preamp like the Creek OBH-22 remote pre-amp with a few inputs (available at music direct) and a better plasma.
