Wow...I'm not sure that I have had it long enuf to know! You can set up the unit to auto select the type of digital signal that you receive, or you can nmanuall set up the signal. you can set each source and within each source customize the dsp.So, on my SAT when a dd signal is present, I have customized the dsp for DD+Dolby PLIIx, which gives me all eight speakers blowing. So far, any manual work that I have done I have chalked up to the learning curve. Sorry I cannot answer more speciffically, but a kid probably will just have fun w/ it.
You choice for the 235 over the 135 was a good one. I think the 235 is an impressive package for its price. Let me know how you like it after u break it in.

For right now he will be using it for his video games and CD/DVD playback, so he should be all right. He's almost 15 now, (the H/K is his B-day present) hopefully it will last him into college.I've got him interested in us building some DIY speaker kits, guess that will be next on the agenda.
