The article does a good job of comparing plasma technology to LCD. I opted for plasma for now and may go to LCD in a few years. The article states that manufacturing LCD screens is less costly than plasma but in the real world, retail prices on large plasma screens are less expensive than comparably sized LCD's.One thing that the article didn't mention was that plasma screens are sensitive to altitude and although this may not concern most people, it is a major issue if you live at altitudes of 5000-feet or more. I live near Denver which starts at 5000-feet and goes up from there. Most plasma screens are manufactured for consumers who live at or near sea level. At higher altitudes, these plasma screens will buzz loudly. A few manufacturers understand this problem and make a line of plasma sets specifically optimized for high altitudes. For example, my plasma has the letter "H" designation at the end of the model number which means it was designed for high altitude use.

Follow Ups:
1. plasmas have a half life of at least 60K hours now...and some are coming out with 100K hours (not 20K like listed in the article)2. burn-in problems with plasmas are mitigatible via various things like wobbling/orbiting and colored side-bars and screen wipes, etc...
3. the price differential mentioned for plasma vs lcd does nto hold water!
You're right, that 20K hour life figure for plasma seemed very outdated. I recall seeing those figures when plasmas first hit the market.Manufacturers are now on their 3rd or 4th generation screens with improvements in many areas including life span. And it's not like the screen out right fails at X hours, it goes to about half brightness is how I understand it. Even with a low 20,000 hour 'life', if you watch for 10 hours a day, 365 days per year, thats still well over 5 years!
