I'm starting a shopping list for a new HT and everything reads like I should go straight to HMDI components. The problem that I have is that the Front Projectors (that's what I'd like to use) that have HMDI interfaces look like their about $6000+ (Infocus). Are there any in the $1500 ballpark that I may be missing?? The only other alternative that I can think of is to buy all HMDI components, but a cheaper DVI-friendly projector and use a converter till prices drop on the HMDI projectors. Thoughts?
Follow Ups:
i looked at this in a high-end a/v shop over the weekend. it did a nice job on dvd movie (star wars II). with hdtv signal, it would have been signif better, i think. the movie had nice skin tones, resolution, motion.. and it looked good with lights on in the room, or off, and good in low brightness on the bulb. it was showing on an 84" screen, somewhat of a gray screen, but i don't know the spec on the screen. blacks were pretty black tho.
Click the link and use the Digital Input at the bottom of the page to select HDMI . When I did it, the selector came up with 24 projectors (8 were under $6k). You will get more hits if you use DVI-HDCP instead ( never select DVI without HDCP).There are some issues with going HDMI to DVI-HDCP, though. Some HDMI devices, when seeing a DVI-HDCP connection downstream, will convert to the incorrect PC level signals (0 - 255, where black is at 1 and white is at 254). You will have to see if the HDMI device you will be using has this issue (HDMI to HDMI does not have this problem). Proper levels for video place black at 16 and white at 235. This allows for below black video signals (1 - 15) and for peak white video signals (236 - 254). That's the correct way and, realizing they've done it wrong for so many years, the computer industry is beginning to move to video based digital levels.
