and I thought it might be related to keeping the recording industry happy. I'm using a video processor which upsamples everything to the displays native resolution via DVI (720P for the Sharp 10K). There's even some fine adjustments on frequencies (nominal 60 Hz) to address slight variations in projectors but I don't know of any which might create the symptoms you describe.Maybe when I find the time, I'll try to mess around with the processor to see if I can duplicate your symptoms.

I ended up just going back to my Runco DLP processor fed by the component output of the Denon 3910. It runs at 750p (not sure why this is the number but that's what I recall seeing on my Sharp when I change the inputs) and the picture beats the HDMI and DVI alternatives that only display at 480p (the 720p and 1080i options for the Denon show video noise on the HDMI adapter route and won't show up at all for a straight DVI-DVI connection).
