And you want it based around a receiver, really? You should be going separates big-time. Safe to assume you want 7.1? Start with a nice high end surround processor, a stereo amp for the front and a multi channel for the rest. Go listen to some speakers you like and pick three for the front and four for the rear (you can go smaller here as the room is pretty small). Get a decent sub or two as well.
When spending $80,000 on a stereo in one drop you really owe it to yourself to spend a fair sun of the money on gas (and maybe even hotels) to find the system that sounds best to you.

For an 18 by 13 room, 5.1 is plenty. I would recommend a receiver as there are not many separates which offer a really significant increase in sound quality over a decent receiver with discrete devices in the output stage and a high current capability. I'd much rather keep my two channel totally separate from my surround system.....

.. he has $80,000 to spend on his system. Even if the difference were very slight, he can easily afford it. For an $8000 system fine, for an $80,000 system why not go separates?
